Dennis and Karen Sinclair (above) created a destination store when they rebuilt Thermopolis Hardware & Mercantile after a fire destroyed their previous business. Sinclair worked with United store design and personnel to develop a custom look for the store.

Dennis Sinclair talked about the rebuilding process:
"United has a super store planning department. They took an empty store, and within a day and a half had completely set all of the fixtures. United has provided us with the tools that any of the major co-ops or wholesalers could have given us. But most of all we appreciate the freedom we have in being able to go our own way."

Hyytinen Hardware Hank in Aitkin, MN, went through a major store expansion that added 4,000 square feet to the 6,000-square-foot original building.

As a part of the expansion, owner Joel Hyytinen expanded his dominant paint department that caters to both DIYers as well as professional paint contractors.

After the fire, owners Ken and Meg Thoreson (above) started with clean slate in designing their new store, adding many items beyond their basic core hardlines assortment.

The new Solon Springs Mercantile is 18,000 square feet with a greenhouse that contains outdoor living products such as grills and outdoor furniture.

Meg and Ken talked about United Hardware's role in restoring their business:
