It’s not unusual for shoppers coming into Amery Farm & Home Hardware to make comments about how full the store seems to be, or how good the prices are. That’s music to the ears of owner Todd Cunningham. Since purchasing the store in the spring of last year, he has been through a whirlwind of changes, which include adding categories and converting the store to United Hardware from a national co-op supplier.
“United has a good product selection, and they are easy to work with. What I appreciate about them is that I have the freedom to run my own store. As my United representative and I were planning out the conversion, if I found something I wanted to change, I could do it.”
Hills Hardware Hank Develops A Plan for Execution
George and Barry Hill were ready to make a big investment in their business. A space adjoining their store, Hills Hardware Hank in Wabasha, Minnesota, came up for sale. By expanding their salesfloor, they could relieve the congestion caused by having a lot of merchandise in a little bit of space, and they could rethink their store layout.
They also knew that if they were going to make the most of that investment, they needed a solid business plan for the expansion, one that would fit their unique needs. That’s why they approached their supplier United Hardware for assistance. “United gave us a plan that, from step one, helped us make the best use of our dollars, and it was a plan that was realistic and attainable,” Barry says. “Everything United promised, they delivered.”
United Hardware the Right Fit for Cottonwood Hardware Hank
Many retailers can tell stories of growing up in the hardware business. At Cottonwood Hardware Hank, in Cottonwood, Minnesota, those stories are still being written. Ben and Laura Andersen are raising the third generation of the family business, and on any given day it’s not unusual to see any of their six children helping out around the store, learning the ways of hardware retailing.
The Andersens purchased the store a couple of years ago after searching for a good place to raise their family and a wholesaler that would treat them like family, too. Now, they are making the store their own with all of the tools available through their new partner in business, United Hardware.
